Files for The Artificial Nails
Nail files vary according to how strongly made they are and how fine the surface is. The higher the grit number, the finer the grit is on the surface, so the gentler the file is on the nails.
When applying or maintaining nail extensions, one of the most important and time consuming actions is giving the artificial nails the right shape. Filing the surface shine from the natural nail before application of the artificial nail in particular should be done very carefully, because failure to do so could cause permanent damage.
That is the reason for the different shapes of files as it is very important to find the shape of file that is easiest to work with.
Natural nails should be prepared for nail enhancements with very fine 240 grit files. Shaping the acrylic extensions may be done with coarser files (starting with an 80 grit), and 180 and 240 grit files are best suited for gel and wrapping extensions , though if there is an old thick wrap or gel layer to be removed or smoothed out then 100 grit files may be used.
NB Files must be sanitised, and thoroughly dried for each new client . Regular customers will often have their own reserved file.
